Music week has arrived, Nerdship! And with it comes the perfect opportunity for me to introduce you to one of my favorite bands: Spaceship Days.
Music has always been a part of my life in one way or another. I’m sure most of us can say that. Go ahead and pick your favorite cliché: music is the soundtrack to our lives, music makes the world go ‘round, music makes your soul sing and your heart skip a beat. Music is tied to memories, makes us feel things, reminds us that we’re not alone.
Musicians have also always been a part of my life. My best friend in high school was a drummer, so I spent a couple of summers lugging gear and serving as loyal Groupie Number One. My best friend in college was also a drummer, but he was more low key. And believe it or not, my best friend as an adult (and my current S.O.) is a drummer, too. What are the chances?
Go ahead. I’ll wait right here.
Dave joined Raleigh, NC, band Spaceship Days about a year ago and worked hard on their latest EP, “Saving the Universe.” I can’t get enough of it. The happy, poppy beats, the sexy crooning of vocalist Adam Lee Decker, the edgy samples. It’s a rock-out-in-your-car-like-no-one-is-watching kind of album. I don’t think it will be long before you’re hearing some of these songs on the radio, and then you can say you were a fan before they even got famous!
And it won’t be long until they are famous. Spaceship Days just won “Music Video of the Year” at the 2014 Carolina Music Awards. Dave and the other guys worked hard shooting the video for “December,” which was filmed and directed by the husband and wife team from Every Day New Pictures (Brittany and John Goodwin).
(Did you see me in the crowd?)
So grab your headphones and get ready for liftoff as you save the universe with Spaceship Days. You won’t be disappointed.
