Nerd-inspired cocktails are some of my favorite things to create. When I’m stuck it’s always nice to reach out to you, dear Nerdship, for suggestions and ideas of what you’d like us to make. A few weeks ago, we sent out a message asking for ‘inspiration,’ and boy did we get some awesome comments. We’ve already made a few, like The Waffle Lover (which is a lovely Leslie Knope inspired cocktail) and The Companion (which is, of course, inspired by the most beautiful companion of all – Inara Serra). Some others that we have on the way are drinks inspired by Teen Wolf (soonish), X-men (May), and The Song of Ice and Fire (April). They will be made, people… we just have to space out our posts that way Nerds and Nomsense doesn’t look like a total booze-fest.
One of my favorite suggestions came via Facebook, from Jamie, who asked that we make a cocktail inspired by the 1991 film, The Rocketeer. You have no idea how happy this made me! This film is in my top 10 favorite movies of all time.
I had to make a cocktail that would do this awesome movie justice, as well as paying homage to the era for which the movie was set in. After a little research, and by little I mean about 5 minutes on Google, I decided to spice up an old favorite – The Martini. And yes, I’m going to be actually using Gin and Sweet Vermouth this time… unlike when I came up with the original name for the Red Shirt – which really didn’t have anything martini-esqu about it other than the vodka. Oh well… we’ve fixed it.
So without any further blabbry, may I present The Rocketini!
This is a very interesting take on your traditional Martini and has an awesome flavor. So if you’d like to make this pseudo-steampunk-esque cocktail contintue reading!
The drink that looks better than a hood ornament!
1 oz of butterscotch schnapps
.5 oz of dry gin
.5 oz of sweet vermouth
- .5 oz of goldschlager
.25 oz of frangelico
Fill remainder with Ginger ale (not pictured)
- Optional Garnish: Cinnamon Stick
- In a shaker, combine all of the alcohols with ice.
- Shake it like you just strapped a rocket on your back and you’re flying like a bat out of hell.
- Pour in your favorite martini glass.
- Top it off with ginger ale.
- Garnish with a cinnamon stick and enjoy.
As always – please drink responsibly. And don’t even think about drinking and manning a jet pack.
