Allison is an editor by day and a gluten-free foodie by night.

She has been cooking since age 7, which is when she started making pancakes from scratch for her parents (and no, we won’t tell you how long that’s been!). As a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, she knows how to make the best of what’s available while appreciating the finer things she can access in America. She lives in Raleigh, NC, with her rockstar S.O. and their four cats. Yes, four. You can learn more about her and her freelance offerings at Follow Allison on twitter: @allisonsm7.

Favorite Thing to Eat: Mild Asian fare (sushi, hibachi, pad thai, thai curry, bibimbap, etc.)

Favorite Spice: To eat, Panang Curry. To cook with (because she hasn’t yet mastered curry), garlic and (gluten-free!) soy sauce.

Favorite Dessert: A thick Cheesecake or a good flourless chocolate torte.

Favorite Drink: Toss-up between Sho Chiku Bai Nigori Sake or Patron Añejo tequila. Not together, though.

Favorite Place to Eat: Heron’s at the Umstead (Cary, NC)

Favorite Place to Travel: Locally, the NC mountains. Not so locally, Lesotho (which is where she served in the Peace Corps and REALLY wants to revisit!) and South Africa.

Favorite Motto: The meaning of life is to live.
