What’s a theme week without a themed cocktail? It’s rubbish I say, especially with this being Game of Thrones week and all! There is so much drama in the series, it drives several of the characters to drink. See: Cersei.
It occurred to me that there had to be a drink made in honor of the Kingslayer, Jaime Lannister. He is a man who needs no introduction and everything knows who he is. The Kingslayer. Oathbreaker. And more recently, the 40-year old, One-Handed Knight. His indiscretions are known almost as soon as the story begins… and let’s just say ‘he’s prepared to kill for the ones he loves.’ Although, after the first couple of books he does tend to grow on you… like a fungus.
For this drink we wanted to play of both the physical attributes and the emotional baggage that comes along with all the little golden hairs on his head. So to do this we needed two Crowns…. Crown Royals, that is. Wait, did someone say incest? Well, that is right up his alley too. **Ooops, did I not say spoilers ahead of time? Well… SPOILERS!** Along with Jaime’s innate talent for knocking people – and little boys – off of their feet, (WHAT!? TOO SOON?) the main family of Lannisters are all ‘golden-headed’ AKA blonde. We decided to use only golden or clear libations for this drink to help convey that ‘golden-lion-feel.’
Random Aside: Isn’t my cheap-o Lannister Lion ring awesome? I bought it for less than a dollar at one of those cheap jewelry stores last year. And as an added bonus you can switch from ASOIAF to The Chronicles of Narnia in a jiffy.
Enough of me telling you about the drink, let’s make one!
AKA Liquid Lannister
1oz Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey
1oz Crown Royal Maple Whiskey
.25oz Goldschlager – because a Lannister always pays his debts.
Pour all the alcohol into an ice filled bar glass and stir for a minute until everything is cold and well mixed…
- Empty into a rocks/wine glass (with rock) and enjoy.
As always – please drink responsibly. Don’t go doing anything that will get your hand chopped off… because that wouldn’t be very good. Oh and don’t go standing in any tower windows after a few of these… gravity always wins.
