The Fist of Khonshu | Comically Cocktailed

Enter one of the vaguest superheroes that I have ever heard of. Moon Knight. Yes, Nerds and Nerd-ladies, I said Moon Knight. No, we’re not talking about some off-shoot of a Sailor Moon character… Moon Knight is actually an interesting character with a tragic backstory. Like all great superheroes, right?!?

Moon Knight’s past is full of covert ops, fleeing the Nazis, and dying. Yes – I said DYING! The man behind Moon Knight, Marc Spector, is a textbook tortured soul. His lover was killed by his brother – with a meat cleaver. His parents have spurned him away. Cue the film noir and break out the sad-tragic piano music. Well, remember the part where I said he died… well he was resurrected by the God of the Moon, Khonshu. (You know, the little Red Dragon off of Mulan’s second cousin twice removed. /kidding) Anywho, I need to be completely honest with you guys, Nerdship. I didn’t know anything AT ALL about Moon Knight – initially I assumed he was a part of Batman Incorporated until I was set on the right path by our lovely fellow blogger, and co-host of Pop Cultured Podcast, Ben. He set me straight and now let’s make a cocktail in honor of the great Moon Knight… by the Fist of Khonshu!

This cocktail is a creamy, mystical brew with a cinnamon-spicy kick. It’s remnant of early Saturday morning cartoons with footy pajamas and a big bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Confused? Don’t be.  This cocktail is somewhere in between White Russian and a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Sounds weird, tastes magical. Don’t fear the cocktail. Love the cocktail. Be the cocktail. Sha-na-na-na-na-na-naaaaaahhhhh.

And now a brief word for something awesome:

Have you checked out Pop Cultured Podcast yet? It’s an awesome, delightful, and devious podcast hosted by our very own Ben and his compadre Kenny. They talk about all things pop culture (comics, movies, television, other awesome-things-of-awesomeness) and are going on the road to record their Epic 10th Episode show at the Nerds and Nomsense H.Q. this Sunday. It’s going to be epic! Episode 10 is going to feature some guest podcasters, delicious cocktails (which is why we’ve been sharing the Comically Cocktailed series with you all this week as they are going to be the cocktails in question), and more. The topic will be all about comics and it will be a momentous occasion that you shouldn’t miss. I’m sure that we’ll be posting a few behind the scenes pictures on our Instagram (so be sure to follow us)!

Thank you for bearing with us during that brief interlude and now… to the drinks!!!

A deliciously, cinnamony cocktail for an obscure superhero.

Fist of Khonshu: Creamy and mystic. Oh yeah, with a bit of kick too!

  • 2oz White Chocolate Liqueur

  • 1oz of Vanilla Vodka

  • .5oz Amaretto

  • .5oz Goldschlager

  • .5oz Frangelico

  • .25oz of butterschnapps

  • Ice

  • Cut with milk (optional)

  • Ground Cinnamon, just a pinch for garnish (optional)

Shake everything with ice, pour into two martini glasses and top with milk if cutting it. Garnish with just a pinch of ground cinnamon and enjoy!

As always – please drink responsibly. Drinking a few of these will most likely feel like you’ve been empowered by Khonshu… but you’d be wrong and that’d be the booze talking. Please be smart with your alcohol and don’t go trying anything stupid such that you’ll end up getting the actual Fist of Khonshu – pow – zoom – too the moon! (The dark side of the moon that is!)

If you make this drink, please let us know what you think of it. We love hearing from you guys so don’t be shy. Feel free to leave us a comment below or on our Facebook page … or if you’re feeling really snazzy tweet us! Also, if you have an idea for a nerd-inspired cocktail or would like to challenge us with a character or fandom – let us know in the comments below! Oh and be sure to check in with Pop Cultured Podcast – they’ve got some exciting stuff around the corner as well.

Really fantastic drink! As a huge Moon Knight fan, I was delighted to see this recipe even exists. I did a little bit of an experiment the second time I made it by substituting Vanilla Cinnamon Bailey’s for the vanilla vodka. It’s really good if you want to push it a bit more towards a dessert drink. Thanks so much for posting this! =)
