Ever have one of those secrets that you don’t really want to keep. You know the kind you just want to shout at the top of your lungs off of the tippy-top of the Empire State Building. Well, this is where we’re at – on the metaphoric Empire State Building and boy is it windy up here.

Drumroll, please!

We’re teaming up with Pop Cultured Podcast to bring you some deliciously delightful and devious comic-inspired cocktails.

A little about Pop Cultured Podcast before we dive headlong into our first cocktail. Pop Cultured Podcast is comprised of two main, awesome guys: Ben and Kenny. Ben is no stranger to Nerds and Nomsense as he is one of our newest bloggers and Kenny is one of his awesome compadres. They host a mostly-weekly podcast about all things pop culture. Comics, movies, commentary and more. They tend to keep things PG-13 with a few moments of R-rated comedy. Amaze-balls, guys! Pure gold. We highly suggest that you, lovely Nerdship, go check out their Facebook Page, follow their Twitter, and be sure to subscribe to their iTunes Podcast Channel.

Ben and I got to talking a little over a week ago about cool things and he mentioned that they’re planning an awesome “Happy 10th Episode” Shindig for the Podcast. They’re planning on bringing in some special guests as well as talking about some of their favorite comic book heroes. Then POOF and idea formed in my little noggin’! Why not make some cocktails up for their favorite comic book characters? Comics + Booze = Victory. Ben was sold on the idea and plans were made to align our mighty kingdoms.

So with all that backstory being said, we’re going to be sharing a new, superhero-inspired cocktail with you every day from now until Saturday. Never fear comic-book-fiends, we’ll be featuring heroes from Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse universes.

For starters, let us kick things off with one of the most broody, eccentric, entrepreneur, billionaire bachelors in the land – Bruce Wayne – more specifically, Batman. And even more specifically: The Dark Knight version of Batman. So I turned him into a cocktail…

May I present The Dark Knight.

This cocktail is intriguing. It’s smokey, broody, and mysterious. Just how I like ’em. (Well… actually I’m a bigger fan of sweet and fruity but this cocktail is pretty darn delicious.) It features a hint of smoky flavor and if I had the $100 hand-held smoke infuser… it would of had actual smokey flavor, but alas, I don’t have the expendable income to purchase it… yet. Don’t turn away in fear just because I mentioned the word smoke. It’s totally worth it!

Also, I would like to give a special shoutout to one of our AWESOME Nerdship members, Tammy G! We sent out a bat signal last Friday in search of black vodka, specifically Blavod Vodka… and can I say that finding this specific type of vodka anytime other than around Halloween is a nightmare. Luckily, Tammy was able to find the last bottle at Mayflower Liquor. Go her! Total lifesaver. [Side note: Another one of our Nerdship commented on how Blavod Drinks Ltd was closing up shop – this is misinformation. Their head-overseeing-bosslike-brand owner Babco Europe Limited is heading in a different direction and they are parting ways but Blavod Drinks Ltd. will still continuing to make their products so don’t jump ship and freak out that we’re giving you discontinued booze recipes… NEVAR!!!] In case you can’t find Blavod, there are other types of black vodka out there… and technically speaking you don’t really need to use black vodka – it’s more for effect rather than flavor. Black vodka doesn’t taste any different from regular vodka – it’s just colored different by using different processes.

Enough of me gabbing… let’s get our drank on, Nerdship.

This libation has a complex taste and has the perfect kiss of smokey flavor that melds everything together in one cacophony of a cocktail. A cocktail specifically worthy of Wayne’s jetsetting pallet.

As always – please drink responsibly. Don’t go on jumping off any tall buildings with your homemade batsuit… it will end very painfully and abruptly. We like you too much for that to happen to you so you should be smart with your alcohol.

If you make this drink, please let us know what you think of it. We love hearing from you guys so don’t be shy. Feel free to leave us a comment below or on our Facebook page … or if you’re feeling really snazzy tweet us! Also, if you have an idea for a nerd-inspired cocktail or would like to challenge us with a character or fandom – let us know in the comments below! Oh and be sure to check in with Pop Cultured – they’ve got some exciting stuff around the corner as well.

Here’s a teaser for tomorrow’s comic-inspired-libation. Can you guess who inspired this one?
