Fall. Fall. Fall. I frakking love it. Boots, jackets, hoodies, the crisp fall air, apple spice, and crunchy leaves make for the perfect combination for this time of year. And with everything getting cooler and damper outside it makes for an even better excuse for hot chocolate (or cocoa)! Growing up my family swore by the powdered packets of chocolatey goodness and now that I have a family of my own (and specifically a 24-hour kitchen) I can make my own… from ‘scratch.’
It can’t be any easier when you only need two ingredients, or four if you want the ‘adult’ version. Normally when you hear ‘made from scratch’ dozens of ingredients are involved – well here’s why this recipe is so awesome you only need two! Nutella and Dark Chocolate Almond Milk (from Silk) are all that you need. Both of which should be readily available at your local supermarket, hopefully. Plus, no household should be without Nutella*, it’s sooooooooooooo tasty. *Unless you’re allergic to hazelnuts or chocolate, then you should probably stay away.
If you’re feeling extra snazzy, and are of legal drinking age, this beverage comes with an adult twist that makes it even better – frangelico. Unfamiliar with that type of liquor? Well, here’s the definition: “Frangelico is made in a similar manner to some other nut liqueurs: nuts are crumbled up and combined with cocoa, vanilla berries, and other natural flavors, and then left to soak in the base spirit. After the spirit has absorbed the flavor of the ingredients, the liqueur is filtered, sweetened, and bottled.” It’s basically hazelnuts in a bottle. It’s really handy to have in your liquor cabinet and is key in making one of our delicious Avengers-inspired cocktails, the Agent Coulson.
This recipe is extremely simple and completely delicious. It’s literally heat, stir, pour, and drink up. I love it and I think that it’s SUPER awesome and absolutely perfect for those chilly fall evenings. Top with marshmallows if you’ve got them and drink up. This drink pairs perfectly with a roaring fireplace, snugly blanket, and a good book or movie. You’ll never want to make the powdered version of hot chocolate again. Mmmmmmmmmmmhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
- 2 cups of Dark Chocolate Almond Silk
- 1½ tablespoon of Nutella
- Optional “Adult” Twist: 1 oz of frangelico
- Optional: Mini Marshmallows
- Heat up the Silk and add in the Nutella. Bring it to a low simmer and stir until combined.
- Pull off the heat, if you’re adding in the frangelico now’s the time to pour it in.
- Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy.
