The leaves are finally starting to change here around N&N HQ. Shades of yellow are starting to peek amongst a sea of green. Temperatures are tiptoeing around the ‘holy schnikes it’s cold’ mark, and to be fair I get cold rather easily so when the low the other morning was 39F I was chittering my teeth like a little chipmunk. All signs point to Fall. Finally! I wait all year for Fall and when it finally arrives it’s such a wonderful feeling. It’s like a season-long holiday!
During Fall I don’t have to have an excuse to cook with pumpkin, squash, or apples. Warm spices can be smelled all throughout HQ. I can make soups and stews to my heart’s content. It’s wonderful. I loves it precious. My precioussssss… (sorry, got a little side tracked)
To celebrate Fall we decided to come up with our very own Falladay Spiked Cider. The best part is you can serve this with ice or warm it up and serve it hot. #winning
As drinks go, it’s fairly easy to make and it will be a complete hit at your next football gathering or Fall/Halloween gathering. It’s a warming drink that doesn’t scream “HEY! I’VE GOT ALCOHOL IN ME.” You can taste the alcohol a bit and it has a wonderful maple finish on the back-end but it’s not completely liquor… which means you can enjoy a few without getting completely schlooshed. Note: Only you know your specific alcohol tolerance level, so please be smart whenever you drink.
The line-up includes: Crown Royal Maple Whiskey, Goldschlager Cinnamon Schnapps, Sour Apple Pucker, Kraken Black Spiced Rum, and some good (QUALITY) pressed apple cider. It doesn’t get much easier than that and the Crown, Goldschlager, and Kraken scream Fall flavors to me. An awesome thing about this recipe is that it’s made for two. Make a drink for yourself and give one to whomever you’re hanging out with.
- 1 oz of Kraken Spiced Rum
- ½ oz of Apple Schnapps
- 1 oz of Cinnamon Schnapps
- 1 oz of Crown Royal Maple
- ¾c of Apple Cider (don’t skimp, get the good stuff)
- Add all of the liquor, cider, and ice in a shaker.
- Shake it like a Polaroid picture
- Split between 8oz mason jars (because we are classy), adding more ice if desired
- Garnish with a straw and enjoy.
To make this drink a warm drink, pour your cider into a sauce pan and bring to almost boiling. While that is heating up go ahead and mix all of your booze together in the mug of your choice. Then once the cider is ready, just pour it over the liquor, garnish with some whipped cream (optional) and enjoy.
